Site Navigation
Site navigation is through the tree on the left hand of the screen. The tree is arranged by topics and sub-topics, as in an outline. Sub-topics are accessible by clicking on any topic that has a "+" sign next to it. The (inactive) graphic below shows the Query Archives data topic in this website expanded by clicking on the "+" sign next to the Query Archives data topic.
There also is a Navigation Panel located in the center at the bottom of each page. The Navigation Panel enables the viewing of the first or last page of the Whiteside site or to step thru the site one page at a time. The Navigation Panel (inactive) graphic is shown below.
How the ILGenWeb Started
In June, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Indiana Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more that one county, they could be located in the index. At the same time, some volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. Eventually, this was expanded to all states and all counties across the US.
Whiteside County Facts
Whiteside County is the Birthplace of Ronald Wilson Reagan. He was born in Tampico in 1911. Illinois became a state in 1819, at that time, Whiteside County was included in Tazewell County along with most of Northern Illinois. In 1827 the area fell within Jo Daviess County except for what became Portland and Prophetstown Townships which were included in Henry County. On January 16, 1836, Whiteside County was formed with its current boundaries, but it continued to be attached to Jo Daviess County until December 1836 when it was attached to Ogle County. On May 6, 1839, the first Officers of Whiteside County were elected, and the county completed its organization thus terminating the connection with Ogle County. Whiteside County is located in Northwestern Illinois along the Mississippi River. The terrain varies from steep limestone bluffs along the Mississippi in the Northwestern part of the county to the flat bottom lands in the Southwest with rolling hills to the east. The County Seat is Morrison, Illinois located at the intersection of US Highways 78 and 30.
Adjacent Counties are Bureau, Ogle, Carroll, Rock Island, Henry, Clinton County, Iowa, Scott County, Iowa, Lee
